Arboreal Duet is a conversation between two women, held in the container of two trees that shelter, embolden, and ground their bodies and the story they weave together. Born in a distinct time of isolation and physical distance, the dance wrestles with the negotiations we make with our bodies as we navigate close friendships in a global pandemic. The conversation and discovery is grounded by the trees, and therefore allowed to expand and explore a space that otherwise maps on to our lives as limiting. We expand and fall through the piece in full acceptance of the spectrum of emotions that come with grieving collective loss, bewilderment at acute isolation, and the discovery of resiliency and rhythm. Arboreal Duet is an exercise in healing between two friends, and the magical heightened world they discover between the two trees.

Arboreal Duet and Like Water were part of the split bill SURFACE TENSION, which was produced with grant funding from Bowdoin College.
