she cherishes this, too grew out of an intimate improvisation of my arm’s musculature. In this duet, we rediscover our body’s innate movement, sharing this radical new awareness of the body’s given motion by playing with improvisation and scripted phrase work together. We listen and see each other throughout the living moment of this dance. This piece draws on my experiences training in Brazilian Zouk and assistant teaching for a Dance with Parkinson’s class. In these distinct settings, the shared emphasis on scripted movement weaved through improvisation illuminated the wealth of movement memory our bodies possess. I explore my profound desire to reconnect with these deeply ingrained dances.
