The Hollow explores the intimate experience of confronting a body in unexpected mourning, through text and movement, as well as the healing that is found in sharing this weight with each other. Drawing from the writing of author Rebecca Solnit in her book A Field Guide to Getting Lost as well as our own written text, the dance catalogs and deconstructs the loss of small yet monumental elements of life. In this dance, our bodies are bewildered by absence, the negative space in our proprioception. In coming together, we find stability, even joy, in the exploration and filling of hollow space. We take inventory of each other and trace ourselves, returning to touch as a guide and text as a roadmap. This piece was created with a careful and thorough process of movement research, improvisation, and listening to each other as we built and grew the work.
